Invitation for a volunteer. 2016

Youth organization Falanster invites a volunteer(s) to work with information technologies: wireless networks, wiki-technologies, e-participation systems and other open source in 2016.

Falanster develops and deploys some open source technologies, that are going to gain local communities through communication, making decisions, accumulating community experience for the next generations and new people. These technologies are provided as an open source with the idea to share experience between communities and groups.

Also Falanster promotes these technologies, explain advantages, facilitate people to work with them. And needs volunteer help in this processes as well.

The Falanster’s team are ready to get the volunteer(s) who 

  • has special knowledge and want to share it or 
  • who doesn’t have special knowledge but wants to learn more about topics above and helps to use them.

Volunteer’s task:

Wikification
This project aim is to integrate wiki-technologies into community life.

Here is needed (or interested to know): 

  • work with mediawiki, creation of strategy how to develop wiki with existing community experience. (Also Wikification is a work with belarusian wikipedia.) 
  • work with promotion, teaching, sharing experience of volunteer’s language Wikimedia affiliation development.

Wireless network building, mesh
This project aim is to develop and experiment with ad-hoc wireless networks. 

Here is needed:
help with creation of networks: planning and testing in real conditions.

Digital Lab
This activity aim is to help communities in creation and maintaining of their web-sites using open source technologies, for example, CMS Drupal, mediawiki and so forth. 

Here is needed: 
help with linux local server administration, site modeling, web-design. 


Volunteer’s intentions:

  • get knowledge about IT-technologies and work with them
  • learn more about Belarus
  • get experience of team work with belarusian youth organization


What you can get?

  • Teach own country languages and culture.
  • Collaborative work in a team with active and creative people.
  • Learn and develop contemporary open source technologies with next sharing of them.
  • Learn exact technologies and practice them in ongoing projects. For example, creation of web-sites.
  • Got experience of belarusian open source users.
  • Share own country experience with belarusian experimentators and social entrepreneur, so help to upgrade Falanster’s approaches.
  • Learn more about Belarus, learn languages: russian, belarusian.

Who we are?

The Falanster is a youth organization, that works with technologies and communities. Creates, develops, tests and teaches open source technology implementations for local and topic communities to gain and help them to participate in belarusian life in terms of transparency and inclusiveness.
